The Flutesmith is a proudly South African, one-woman small business based in Pretoria, Gauteng.
Laetitia is a classically trained flutist who completed flute repair training in the USA during her BMus studies at the University of Pretoria. She later earned a BTech in Jewellery Design and Manufacture from Tshwane University of Technology, developing the intricate metalworking skills essential to flute making. She has also completed a headjoint-making course in the USA and holds Straubinger certification.
As an active professional orchestral and chamber musician in Gauteng, every flute is carefully play-tested to ensure optimal performance. She values open, honest conversations and works with flutists at all levels, whether troubleshooting issues, upgrading, or choosing a new instrument.

From routine maintenance to major repairs, services include Clean, Oil and Adjust treatments, full repads, overhauls, and Straubinger conversions. Each flute is thoroughly cleaned with special care taken to preserve the metal surface. Meticulous padding and shimming ensure precise sealing with the lightest possible touch.

The Flutesmith is an authorised South African importer and dealer of Haynes, Di Zhao and Notus Winds flutes. Players can choose from a range of instruments, from student to professional level, to suit their individual needs. Well-maintained rental flutes are also available for beginners who are not yet ready to purchase.

A curated range of accessories includes imported Thumbports in various colours, as well as Beaumont polish cloths and flute swabs in different designs. In support of local Pretoria-based makers, custom flute bags are available in Shweshwe fabric or premium leather, offered in various styles and colours. All bags are made to order.
